Sixth Form Prospectus
Guidance and Support

We will give you a personal tutor who will be there to help and advise you throughout your time in our Sixth Form. They will help with managing your time properly, adapting to life in the Sixth Form, meeting all your deadlines, deciding on the next step and making applications for jobs or University - whatever you decide.

You will have regular individual meetings with your tutor to discuss your courses, sort out any problems and generally review progress. It is important that you understand your commitment to these meetings as they form an important part of you taking more responsibility for your own learning. You are also expected to attend tutor group sessions where we have a wide range of visiting speakers, discussions and other planned activities.

For each of your subjects you will be given targets and predicted grades based on your GCSE results. You will review and maybe alter these targets in regular discussions with your teachers. It will be your responsibility to attend all of these required sessions. If you do not then you are placing your future in our Sixth Form at risk.

We also have a team of other full time staff who will give support and help as needed - Connexions Representatives, Careers Staff, Councillor as well as a full time Support Officer who deals with all queries related to you. If necessary we can liaise with external support agencies for problems outside our normal areas of expertise.

Work Experience

All students on two year courses are expected to complete two weeks work experience. This usually takes place after AS exams in the summer term. This is becoming more and more important to all students. University Admissions Tutors will look for evidence of it and many courses require relevant post 16 work experience as a compulsory part of an applicatiion.

Employers are always keen to see evidence of initiative and experience in the workplace whilst in the Sixth Form.

Relevant work experience can make the difference between acceptance into Higher Education, Further Education Employment or not.
