A BTEC First Diploma in Engineering is a practical, work-related course. You learn from completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The specialist units enable the learner to study particular areas in depth and there are opportunities to follow a clear career pathway into, Maintenance, Manufacturing or Electronic Engineering.
A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSE grades A* - C Grade and is normally taken as a full-time course.
What are the entry requirements?
- Four GCSE’s including grade C/D Mathematics.

- Working Practices in Engineering
- Using and interpreting Engineering Information
- Applied Electrical and Mechanical Science for Technicians
- Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
- There will be four other specialist units of work
There are NO exams. You complete regular written coursework assignments to fulfil the assessment criteria.
Pupils who have studied the BTEC First Certificate can add to their certificate to obtain the Diploma Certificate.
