The BTEC National Award offers a specialist qualification that focuses on particular aspects of practice within the Performing Arts. As such, The National Award offers a qualification which can extend the study and provide vocational emphasis for learners also following A Level courses in the Performing Arts. Equally the BTEC National Award offers a focused qualification for students who wish to improve their skills in one or more of the Performing Arts whilst studying other sixth form courses.
In this course you will study five units, all related to aspects of the Performing Arts, which consist of two core units plus three other specialist units.
Core Units
- Performing To An Audience (worth twice as many marks as the other units)
- Musical Theatre Performance
Specialist Units (all three units must be taken, but the units may be subject to change)
- Contemporary Theatre Performance
- Singing Skills for Actors and Dancers
- Variety Performance
This course involves a large amount of practical activity, focussing on improving and extending learners skills. Students will be expected to take a full part in practical lessons. There are many opportunities to work independently, completing background reading, research or listening work. We expect that learners will word-process any written assignments and so successful learners will quickly take control of their time-management and independent learning to allow them to meet deadlines.
Students should be prepared to dedicate extra time to rehersals and take part in the 6th form Pantomime as part of their course.
Students should have completed either Dance, Drama or Music GCSE courses or have experience of performing before embarking on the BTEC National Award in Performing Arts.
