GCSE Subjects
English GCSE
A grade C or above in English Language is required for many careers, and by nearly all Colleges. You will be trying to improve your GCSE National Curriculum grade, so you will be given assignments which will help you develop your skills in reading, writing, and speaking and listening. There will also be an opportunity for you to try to improve your GCSE grade in English Literature, if you wish. You will follow the GCSE post-16 syllabus.
Mathematics
Are you disappointed with your Mathematics GCSE result?
• Did you fail to get your C?
• Could you have done better?
• Should you have done better?
For a number of educational courses and careers, a grade C in Mathematics is a minimum requirement. Westlands Sixth Form offers you a second chance. If you are willing to work hard, you can improve your grade – all you need is commitment.
Science (Double Award)
The Sixth Form course repeats the earlier format of Key Stage 4. All students are required to submit a coursework element accounting for 20% of the overall marks. The remaining part of the course is equally divided between elements of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
This is a particularly useful course for students who need a grade C or above in a Science subject (for example, for a teaching career), or those intending to go into a health-related career.
