Health and Social Care is a well established vocational course that is popular with students and has a very good record of results. It is a gateway into university or college and the care sector with related job roles. It is particularly suited to students who do not perform well in examinations as it is coursework based.
Past students on the course have achieved a 100% pass rate.
In this course you will have the opportunity to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills that form the basic foundation for occupations and professions within Health, Social Care and Early Years Care. The work will relate to all client groups and their needs, broadening further career opportunities and routes.
Units to be covered include
- Health issues, physical disorders, nutrition, health and safety, public health, communication and psychological perspectives
- Social issues and the rights of the individual such as equal opportunities and core values.
- Early Years services including child development, caring for children and young people and services available to children
Students will have 50 hours (for the one year course), or 100 hours (for the two year course), of work experience across at least three different placements. This opportunity will act as a focal point for all other units in the programme and embed the vocation nature of the qualification by putting theory into practice.
The skills of effective communication and independent research are emphasised throughout the course together with careers advice and guidance. Many students use this advanced qualification to enter higher education on university courses such as nursing, teaching, childhood studies, social work and psychological therapies.
