Physical Geography
All students study the core section – ‘Rivers Floods and Management’ and then chose one of the following:

• Cold Environments
• Coastal Environments
• Hot Desert Environments and their Margins

Human Geography
All students study the core section – ‘Population Change’ and then chose one of the following:
Food Supply Issues
Energy Issues
Health Issues

Unit 2 is a one hour exam on Geographical Skills which tests knowledge of seen and unseen information on either of the core sections.  Fieldwork will be carried out but this is not submitted as coursework.  There will be a question in the skills paper that is related to the fieldwork.

A2 Level
Unit 3 is assessed by a two and half hour exam comprising of three sections.  Students answer one Physical and one Human Geography question then choose one essay question based on either option.

Physical Geography Options are:

• Plate tectonics and associated hazards
• Weather climate and associated hazards
• Ecosystems: Change and Challenge

Human Geography Options are:

• World Cities
• Development and Globalisation
• Contemporary Conflicts and Challenges


Unit 4 is a choice between:
A Geography Fieldwork Investigation which will be assessed in a one and a half hour exam
A Geographical Issue Evaluation which is a skills paper on an issue set by the board in a one and a half hour exam.
