Geography


In these courses you will study the interation of people and their environments through regional examples and case studies. Detailed case studies at a variety of scales from local to global are undertaken

AS Level
Unit 1 involves a two hour exam which combines both Physical and Human Geography. 

Physical Geography
All students study the core section – ‘Rivers Floods and Management’ and then chose one of the following:

Human Geography
All students study the core section – ‘Population Change’ and then chose one of the following:
Food Supply Issues
Energy Issues
Health Issues

Unit 2 is a one hour exam on Geographical Skills which tests knowledge of seen and unseen information on either of the core sections.  Fieldwork will be carried out but this is not submitted as coursework.  There will be a question in the skills paper that is related to the fieldwork.

A2 Level
Unit 3 is assessed by a two and half hour exam comprising of three sections.  Students answer one Physical and one Human Geography question then choose one essay question based on either option.

Summary
This subject is available as a single AS Level one year course. All work is externally assessed.

Examinations take the form of short answer questions and extended prose for AS Level.

At A2 Level assessment is by short answer questions, synoptic essays and a controlled assignment.
