English Language has proved a popular and enjoyable A Level at Westlands for several years. Our students have achieved great success with this subject, many of them gaining very good grades, and some going on to study English, Media or Journalism at Degree Level.
At AS Level you will do two units of work in the Lower Sixth, sitting one AS Level examination at the end of the year on Analysing Written Language and Categorising Texts. You will also complete a coursework folder containing two creative writing tasks.
You will be awarded a full AS Level certificate for this course. You will probably then go on to do the complete A Level in the Upper Sixth, knowing that the examinations you have already done comprise 50% of the A Level marks.
In the Upper Sixth you do another two units of work, again sitting one examination at the end of the year on Developing Language. You will also complete a Language Investigation and an Intervention task for your coursework.
Your course might look something like this:
Lower Sixth AS Level
- Unit 1 – Categorising Texts
- Unit 2 – Creating Texts
Upper Sixth A2 Level
- Unit 3 - Developing Language
- Unit 4 - Investigating Language
